LONDON'S BRIDGE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

1988
In 1984, personnel of the city of London, Ontario decided that an organized bridge maintenance strategy was required to 1) maximize cost-effectiveness of maintenance expenditures, 2) protect the multi-million dollar capital value of these structures, and 3) develop an organized program to return all the structures to good repair. This paper describes the program developed to meet these needs. Details included an extensive structure inventory and inspection program, with the various components of the structures assessed and rated according to severity of deterioration. Maintenance needs were then prioritized according to urgency. Based on the data collected, a schedule was then established for urgent repairs, and for routine and preventative maintenance. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 807201.
