Towards Adaptive LoRa Wireless Sensor Networks: Link Budget and Energy Consumption Analysis

2021
LoRa technology is an interesting solution for low power, long range IoT applications due to the flexibility of its parameters for adaptive Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). This paper goes towards WSN adaptation using LoRa technology. The paper shows the result of the adaptation by varying the Spreading Factor (SF), transmission power (PT) and coding rate (CR). Furthermore, a link budget analysis is performed and the maximum tolerable loss is calculated for different values of the LoRa parameters. Also, the energy consumption of LoRa nodes is calculated for different radio configurations. Simulation results show the optimal energy consumption configurations for different values of SF, PT and CR.
