A comprehensive analysis of major agronomic traits of Guangxi mungbean germplasm

2010
The major agronomic traits of 112 mungbean germplasm collections in Guangxi were investigated under field conditions, and the correlations were analyzed amongst them. The results showed highest variability in number of primary branch, pods per plant and grains per plant, while it was higher in case of 100-grain weight. The plant height, primary nod,pod length and pod width showed medium variability, while the grains per pod and growth period showed the least variability. At the maturity stage, the ratio of black pod color and green seed color reached 91.07 and 93.75%,respectively.The moderate, small and large type of grain size accounted for 48.2,47.3 and 4.5%.The correlation analysis results revealed a significantly negative correlation of plant height with the primary branch and 100-grain weight, however,no significant correlation was observed with the yield per plant.A significantly negative correlation was also observed between pods per plant, pod length, pod width and 100-grain weight at 1% level, and growth period at 5% level. The trait of 100-grain weight was found positively and significantly correlated with pod length and pod width. The yield per plant was also positively correlated with pods per plant and 100-grain weight, which was at 1% level and pod length and pod width at 5% level. The data obtained in the present study will help in breeding and improvement of mungbean varieties. The fine varieties with short plant type,high-yield,large pod and grain size and moderate growth period characteristics may be utilized in various breeding programs.
