SY44-1THE COMPARISONS OF THE INPATIENTS WITH ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE BETWEEN OPEN AND CLOSED WARDS-THE MULTICENTER STUDY-

2014
We demonstrated a multicenter-study regarding their physical, psychiatric, and social conditions of the inpatients with alcohol dependence (AD) with random sampling survey at 14 settings throughout Japan. We got 221 valid responses from the inpatients with AD, which included 121 in open ward and 100 in closed ward at the point of 4-10 weeks after their admissions, and compared the situations of the inpatients in open wards with those of them in closed wards. The numbers of relevant diagnostic ICD-10 criterion among the alcohol-dependent inpatients in closed wards were significantly higher than those of them in open wards. The AD inpatients in closed wards had higher prevalence rates of 4 diagnostic symptoms for AD in ICD-10, and both physical complications and psychiatric comorbidities than those of them in open wards. Regarding the social background, the most common marital and familial conditions were married divorced and single household among them in open wards, and married and live-in family members among them in closed wards. We might suggest that the AD inpatients in closed wards required more assistance from the family to receive the treatment for AD, as the patients with severe mental illness typically tended to admit in closed wards.
