Luminescence properties of garnet Y2Mg2Al2Si2O12:Ce3+ phosphors

Abstract New garnet host of Y2Mg2Al2Si2O12 was designed by the partial substitutions of Mg2+-Si4+ for Y3+/Al3+-Al3+ in Y3Al5O12. Then, the Ce3+ doped Y2Mg2Al2Si2O12 phosphors were synthesized. With the increase of Ce3+ concentration, the peak wavelength of Ce3+ emission band shifts to longer wavelengths according to larger crystal field splitting. Y1.95Ce0.05Mg2Al2Si2O12 has an emission band over 475-750 nm, and it indicates a redshift of Ce3+ emission band comparing with Y3Al5O12:Ce3+. The LED device fabricated by integrating 450 nm LED chips with Y1.95Ce0.05Mg2Al2Si2O12 phosphor exhibited white light owning the CCT value of 4363 K and the CRI value of 83.7.
