Epilepsie, Gehörlosigkeit und leichte Intelligenzminderung : Patient mit episodischen Verhaltensauffälligkeiten (Kasuistik)
2011
Behavior changes in a 51-year-old man are reported. The patient suffered from focal epilepsy. After a meningoencephalitis at 6 months, he had become deaf. The patient had mild intellectual disability (ID) and displayed impulsive aggressive behavior. He presented with “scanning” eye and head movements directed to the ceiling of his bedroom in the evenings and on weekends. For the differential diagnosis, simple partial seizures as well as non-ictal visual hallucinations were considered. After thorough observation and evaluation, the reasons of the patient’s new behavior were disclosed. They were determined not to be associated with epilepsy, and no further treatment was necessary.
