Study of the Chelyabinsk Meteorite Magnetism by Nuclear Gamma-Resonance Spectroscopy

2020
Three fragments of the Chelyabinsk meteorite have been investigated by Mossbauer spectroscopy in a temperature range of 300–830 K. They are found to contain iron in the composition of various minerals in different physicochemical and crystallographic states. Anomalous behavior of the temperature dependences of hyperfine magnetic fields on iron nuclei in all fragments is demonstrated. The results obtained are qualitatively explained within the concept of structural magnetic phase transitions, in which iron ions play a role of stabilization centers for new crystal structures in specific temperature ranges.
