Exploring trust in online doctoral supervision

This session examines the concept of trust in doctoral supervision and how that may, or may not, be translated to an online environment. Many institutions, particularly those chasing the international market, offer doctoral supervision remotely; relying entirely on the creation of an online relationship between student and supervisor. This session is part of a ‘work- in-progress’ and focusses mainly on the conceptual model chosen to investigate this issue in an empirical study, which is still in planning. The presentation will also use case studies from a programme currently supervising a multinational population of 150 students, all of whom are online.
