Corrigendum to: A novel radiological appearance of meningeal extranodal marginal-zone B-cell lymphoma [63 (1) 97–100] ☆
2009
The radiology trainee faced with the daunting task of independently reporting chest radiographs (CXRs) for the first time will find this book invaluable. It is an eminently readable volume serving both as a comprehensive introduction to, and a handy pocket sized reference on, this most frequently requested radiology investigation. DeLaceyandBermanarealso theco-authorsof the popular volume ‘‘Accident & emergency radiology: a survival guide’’. The ethos of being succinct and providing a useful scheme to follow when reporting radiographs, which led to the success of this earlier volume, has been carried on to this book. It isdivided into twoparts; thefirst covers thecore knowledge essential for the accurate interpretation of CXRs. Normal and abnormal thoracic anatomy and CXR appearances of common conditions are described with the aid of high-quality radiographs and clear diagrams. In contrast to most other volumes aimed at the same readership, CXR findings in the intensive care setting are also presented. The second part delves into CXR interpretation in specific clinical scenarios. Chapters describing the features to look for in a CXR of a patient presenting with a particular symptom are useful both at the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) station and in the wards. A scheme for analysing the radiograph step by step to arrive at the correct diagnosis is provided. Crucially, common pitfalls to avoid are clearly described. Some of the radiographs could have been larger. There are a few instances where the size of the pictures hinders the grasping of the salient features described; however, the overall quality of the radiographs is of a high standard. Although this book is a survival guide, and as such, a more comprehensive volume must be referred to for further details, radiology trainees learning the ropes of the noble art will feel more confident with it by their side during a long an arduous reporting session.
