An information hub for implantable wireless brain machine interface

2013
In this paper, a brain machine interface (BMI) is proposed with integrated recording and stimulation circuits to observe neural signals and stimulate neural cells with PC or Android device, so that we can help brain injured or neural disorder patients to restore their physiological functions. In addition, the limitation of wire is eliminated by wireless data/power transmission to improve the convenience of the BMI for patients. The BMI provides 8-channel stimulation and 8-channel real-time recording system for monitoring different depth of brain, and communicates with with PC or Android device by bluetooth transmission. A programmable digital circuit, called information hub, with 2MHz clock rate and 1V operation voltage, plays an important role in the BMI, which controls the recording and stimulation circuits, makes the recording and stimulation systems tunable by user, and processes the signals for wireless transmission.
