Comparison of the effectiveness of two older driver training programs on cognitive self-regulation and on-road transfer.

2014
The aim of the study is to compare the effectiveness of two older driver re-training programs using or not a driving simulator. The curriculum is based on cognitive training and will last 36 hours over 3 month. In order to improve the driver's self-regulation, different feedbacks will be given to the drivers over or underestimating their cognitive and driving abilities. 120 older drivers will be included and distributed among 6 groups (over vs under-estimators; driving simulator based training vs computer cognitive training vs computer neutral training). Training benefits will be evaluated while driving the simulator and also on road. The training will be finished before the conference and some first results will be presented. It is expected that the cognitive computer training can help both type of drivers and that the simulator based training will be more efficient for over-estimators.
