SECURITIZING MIGRATION: AN ANALYSIS OF THE CHILEAN CASE
2021
This research studies the relationship between security and migration in Chile from the perspective of Critical Security Studies. The theoretical and methodological approach used is based on the concept of "securitization", coined by the Copenhagen School (Buzan, Waever and De Wilde, 1998) and later developed by the Aberystwyth School (Booth, 2013) and Paris (Bigo, 2002; Huysmans, 2006; Balzacq, 2010). In accordance with the above, and through an interpretative analysis, interviews were conducted and documentation linked to the phenomenon of migration was reviewed, to determine the role of both the discourses of political authorities and the practices of the administration agents, in the production of migration as a national security problem in Chile.
