Performance Evaluation of Density Based Graph Cuts Segmentation Technique of Mammograms

2011
This paper involves the study of density based segmentation of mammograms using the graph cut technique. The focus of this research is for the segmentation of the dense area with regards to the breast anatomical structure for visualization, such as location of nipple if possible, skin-air interface, fatty tissue, glandular tissue and pectoral muscle. Previous related research has used rough ground truth, whereas this work emphasizes on using detail and precise ground truth in performance evaluation. In this paper, a comparison between the two is presented. It can be deduced that the comparison of performance evaluation for segmentation results by using different ground truths is not comparable, unless an objective ground truth is used or a clear definition and explanation of ground truth is stated for this kind of research in the future.
