In-Hospital STEMI: An Inside Out Approach

2014
The clinical benefit of reducing the time between the onset of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and coronary reperfusion has been a motivating principle for cardiologists and their emergency care colleagues for the past two decades 1 . Prompt treatment with fibrinolytic therapy or primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) leads to improved outcomes and important reductions in mortality 2 . Development and optimization of systems of care to improve treatment times for STEMI patients has been a major initiative of the national cardiovascular organizations as well as regional healthcare networks for nearly ten years.
