Analysis of 60 GHz ridge gap waveguide based junctions, bends and losses

A comparative study on T and Y junctions based on metal ridge gap waveguide is presented for 57-64 GHz band applications. This study investigates the insertion losses of the ridge gap bends effect on two elements of T and Y junction divider. The T-junction divider has insertion losses of 0.25-0.3 dB whereas the Y-junction divider has around 0.15-0.2 dB over the whole 60GHz unlicensed band. The port modeling using the waveguide ports and P/I 2 approximation method is illustrated. The design of the pins and guiding ridges is discussed in this paper along with the electric current distributions at various angles of bends. This investigation on ridge gap waveguide based bends is helpful in designing high gain millimeter array system.
