A Flexible Strain Sensor for Detecting Pressure based on Metamaterial Structure

2021
Pressure pulsation is the key problem causing pipeline vibration and reducing pipeline system reliability and service life. Detection technology plays a significant role in preventing pipeline malfunction. This work provides a cost-effective and realizable sensor for pressure detection. We combine the metamaterials structure with conductive fabric to monitor tube state. When the tube’s inner pressure changes, the metamaterials will bend. A resistive flexible conductive fabric is installed to measure inner pressure. This sensor has the efficiency of easy fabrication. We described the relationship between inner pressure and the bending property of the sensor. The experimental results show that the sensor detects pipeline inner pressure accurately. And the experimental data is consistent with the simulation results. The authors provide a convenient and economical approach to pressure detection.
