Properties and preparation of porous carbon material supported with modified TiO2

2012
Abstract Titania (P25-type) was used as photocatalytic matrix, and ceria was introduced to modify P25 by a deposit method in order to improve the photocatalytic property. Recombination of charge carriers have been restrained by the oxygen storage effect of rare earth elements. Modified P25 (CeO2/TiO2) has been proved to be more effective in photocatalytic application by fluorescence spectrum. Then CeO2/TiO2 was wrapped on the surface of expanded graphite-amorphous carbon (EGC) to form a new kind of carbon based composite- adsorption and photocatalytic integration material (CTO/EGC). With a large amount of micropores on the surface, the specific surface area could reach 963m2/g, and the composite has a benefit in little molecular organic pollutants adsorption. With a synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalytic, 100 mL methyl orange with the concentration of 50 mg/L could be effectively decomposed by 100 mg CTO/EGC, up to 96% after 3 hours.
