Enhanced fluorescence via photonic crystal slabs incorporating nanorod structures

The emission intensity of a fluorescent dye is increased by 104 times through the combined effects of enhanced near-fields produced by a 1-dimensional photonic crystal and enhanced surface area provided by a nanorod coating.
