Impianti protesici e resezioni nelle metastasi

2008
Management goals of metastatic bone desease are control of pain and maintenance of function. Prosthetic arthroplasty may rapresent a useful technique in selected patients. Reconstruction of the proximal femur or humerus, reconstruction of the distal femur and the proximal tibia, intercalary bone replacement are the most frequent applications of prosthetic device. Indications include reconstruction of wide lytic lesions when internal fixations device are not amenable, lytic lesions in which there are no radiotherapy options and salvage of failed internal fixation devices. Modular prostheses allow resection of large bone lesions and full weight bearing. Major complications include deep infections, post operative hemorhage and delayed wound healing.
