Botulinum Toxin Treatment in Cerebrovascular Disease

Cerebrovascular disease is a major cause of chronic morbidity and disability worldwide. After stroke, many patients develop symptoms which add to the patient’s limitation and deteriorate their quality of life. In this chapter, we discuss spasticity, post-stroke pain syndromes, involuntary movement disorders, and sialorrhea, all potentially amenable to botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) therapy. Evidence-based data on the efficacy of BoNTs in treatment of each of these disorders will be presented and discussed.
