Synthesis of Acetylsalicylic Acid with Iodine as Catalyst

2008
cetylsalicylic acid was synthesized from salicylic acid and acetic anhydride catalyzed by iodine. The results showed that the method for synthesizing acetylsalicylic acid with iodine as catalyst featured rapid reaction rate, less dosage of catalyst, obtained product with high purity and no pollution to environment etc. The optimum esterification conditions were as follows: molar ratio of acetic salicylic acid to anhydride to iodine was 2:1:0.0039, reaction time was 30 min, reaction temperature was at range of 80 -85℃, and the yield can be reached 85.9%.
