2016
task of understanding, let alone reproducing, human brains. Surely, our cybernetic network is something we may hope to evolve over a very long period perhaps millennia. How are we going to gain the perspective that lets us work on such a time scale, while still trying to take relatively effective short-term action? We wish to cure the disease rather than the symptoms, but are still at the stage at which what we take to be the disease itself is really only a complex of symptoms at a somewhat more abstract level. Our task, and it's a mighty one, is to try to pool our diverse ideologies, our increasing technological knowledge of computers and cybernetics, and an evolving sense of what constitutes human freedom so that humans, in symbiosis with their machines, may eventually become truly free.
