An unexpected disease presenting as a pediatric cerebellar mass

2019
Abstract Pediatric cerebellar masses have enormous and a diverse list of differential diagnoses: cerebral tumors, abscesses, granulomatous diseases, etc. Each of these differential diagnosis must be considered in the clinical practise. In this case report, we report a case of cerebellar tuberculoma in a child presenting as a cerebellar mass. This disease represents 10 % of all TB infection with preponderance in children and elderly. It can take the form of tuberculomas, tuberculous abscesses or meningitis. Intracranial tumors have a similar clinical presentation, making the clinical diagnosis of tuberculoma challenging. This could delay the diagnosis of tuberculoma and result in increased morbidity. Imaging studies are essential to the diagnosis of intracranial tuberculoma. This disease is curable if recognised promptly and treated empirically with anti-tuberculous therapy.
