Governance and Administration of Simulation Programs: Providing the Structure and Strategic Foundation for Excellence

2019
Abstract Over the past 20 years, simulation-based healthcare education has grown, developed, and become more complex. New training requirements, the increased number of learners, the changing nature of clinical care delivery, and the patient safety impetus have contributed to the growth of simulation programs and centers. The importance of effective and efficient governance has become an integral part of ensuring the quality of the education provided by these simulation programs. Various associations have created standards of best practices and standards for accreditation, which help to guide the creation, implementation, and processes for these administrative and governance structures. This chapter will review how the increased interest in simulation-based education and assessment has placed more importance on the governance and administration of simulation programs.
