The Passage from the Materialistic Approach to the Integrated One in Cultural Heritage and Cultural Policies: Challenges and Perspectives
2019
The paper aims to address the theoretical framework within which models of cultural management have developed in the framework of cultural heritage. More specifically, we tend to discuss a particular movement, which characterizes both institutions, UNESCO and the Council of Europe. In the aftermath of the Second World War firstly UNESCO and later on the Council of Europe are the principle institutions for designing and implementing cultural policies so as to protect and safeguard cultural heritage. The paper aims to address the role of both institutions and how they have been developing over time from a materialistic approach to a more integrated one. This theoretical approach will be supplemented by a critical approach and a case study. The case study derives from Spain and specifically the Alhambra Palace and Albyzin neighborhood.
