Expression of miR-155 and miR-30a in gastric carcinoma and the clinical significance

2012
Objective To investigate the expression of miR-155 and miR-30a in gastric carcinoma and the clinical significance. Methods Fifty-two pairs of human gastric carcinoma tissue samples were obtained from patients who underwent surgical resection. The level of miR-155 and miR-30a in 52 gastric carcinoma and the adjacent normal tissues was quantified by real-time fluorescent quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction ( RT-qPCR),and the relationship between miR-155 and miR-30a level with clinicopathological factors was explored. Results The expression of miR-155 in gastric carcinoma tissues (0.84 ± 2.27) was significantly increased as compared with that in the adjacent normal tissues (0.28 ± 0.56,P < 0.05 ).The up-regulated expression of miR-155 was associated with lymph node metastases in gastric carcinoma ( P < 0.05 ).The expression of miR-30a in gastric cancer tissues (3.16 ± 8.11 )was significantly lower than that in the adjacent normal tissues ( 15.87 ± 35.58,P < 0.05 ). The low expression of miR-30a was associated with lymph node metastases and local invasion in gastric carcinoma ( P <0.05).Conclusion miR-155 and miR-30a may play important roles in the development and progression of gastric carcinoma, and they may be potential biomarkers in the diagnosis and treatment of gastric carcinoma.
