Case study 2: Chongqing Qinghua High School

Chongqing Qinghua High School is a prestigious boarding or residential school located on the bank of Huaxi River in Chongqing, China. The school enrols more than 4200 students and has 350 faculty and other staff members. In general, students are from middle-class families, the majority of whom are from the urban Chongqing area; others are from suburbs and even nearby rural areas. Founded in 1938, the school was established to provide a 'peaceful, healthy, happy, comfortable, and harmonious' learning and living environment. The school is characterised by its philosophy of 'nurturing each individual as a whole person and emphasising individual personalised development'. In 1999, Chongqing Qinghua High School was named and honoured by the Chongqing Municipal Government as one of the first key schools in Chongqing.
