STUDY ON URBAN BRIDGE LAYOUT AND PASSAGE SPACE ORIENTED BY SLOWTRAFFIC AND LINGERING SPACE: TAKING SHANGHAI SUZHOU RIVER AS AN EXAMPLE

2015
Through the investigation of bridges along Shanghai Suzhou River, we find a lot of problems: bridge layout is unreasonable; motor vehicles occupy the main traffic volume; slowtraffic and lingering space lacks comfort. Based on these problems, the study proposes ideas for bridge planning and design oriented towards slow-traffic and lingering space. Learning from overseas experiences, we put forward bridge layout suggestions for Suzhou River from three aspects: constructing a reasonable distance between slowtraffic and lingering bridges, building a bridge system suitable for fast and slow traffi c, connecting the cross-river attraction sources and bridges. We also put forward a bridge space optimizing plan for Suzhou River from four angles: building harmony between motor vehicles and people, combining multiple lingering functions, creating abundant crossriver routes, keeping balance between historical conservation and modern use of historical bridges.
