Development of a technology for depositing detonation coatings on rubbing surfaces for improving their resistance to wear

1997
The results from developing a technology for depositing protective wear-resistant coatings based on a conglomerated powder consisting of 25-35% of α-Al 2 O 3 , 20-30% of Cr 2 O 3 , and approximately 45% of Ni and Cr (in total) are described. These coatings are suited for use in liquids at elevated temperatures in the range of 90-240°C. Bench tests showed that the operating capability of the coatings, for the case of friction with siliconized graphite, was satisfactory under the conditions specified for III category seals at a pv of 32 MPa m/s. It is likely that this combination of materials will be used in the rotary end face seals of the network and the feed pumps at thermal and nuclear power stations.
