2012
Arm strength, grip strength and wrist flexibility are important in hockey. It also helps in making wise selection of the sportsmen by coaches. The purpose of the study was to compare arm strength, grip strength and wrist flexibility among college and district level hockey players of lucknow. 60 male players 30 from each college and district level were randomly selected as subjects for this study. The variables selected for this study were arm strength, grip strength and wrist flexibility. Arm strength of the subjects was taken by this formula (pull-ups + dips) (W / 10 + H-60). The grip strength of the subjects was measured by a grip dynamometer to the nearest kilogram. The wrist flexibility of the subject was measured with the help of goniometer to the nearest degree. The comparison of arm strength, grip strength and wrist flexibility among college and district level hockey players was established by computing t-ratio. For testing the hypothesis the level of significance was set at 0.05 level. Result: It reveals that college and district level players of lucknow differ significant in terms of left & right grip strength and arm strength because the calculated ‗t‘ value is significant higher them required ‗t‘ value. But in terms of wrist flexibility left and right no significant difference was found between college and district level hockey players of lucknow as the calculated ‗t‘ value is lesser than the required ‗t‘ value. Conclusions: There is a significant difference of grip strength of college and district level hockey players of lucknow. There is a significant difference of arm strength of college and district level hockey players of lucknow.
