Immunoglobulins: Benefits and risks from the patient's point of view

2017
Summary Patients have to be informed about the risks and benefits of medicinal products derived from human plasma. No study has examined the patient's perspective yet. Our objective was to assess perceived benefits and risks of immunoglobulins administration from the patient's point of view. Thirty-four patients receiving subcutaneous or intravenous immunoglobulins for chronic disorders at a single university hospital were asked to complete a survey. Although the level of comfort was high, the results revealed variable and incomplete knowledge, in particular about the nature of the treatment. Greater efforts should be made by health professionals to provide information to patients about plasma-derived medicinal products.
