Impact of Perceived SocialSupport on PsychologicalWell-being of Teenagers

Present study intends to investigate the impact of perceived social support on psychological well-being amon g teenagers. It was also aimed to compare levels of perceivedsocial supportand psychologicalwell-being among teenagerswithone parentaliveand withbothparents alive.Urdu translatedversions of Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and W arwick-EdinburghMentalW ell-beingScale(WE MW BS)wereused inthestudy.Thesampleofthestudyconsistedof(N=212)teenagers ofage range of13 to 19 years (M = 16.42, SD = 1.76) with equal numbe rofteenagerswithbothparentsalive(n=106)andteenagers withoneparentalive(n=106).Samplewascollectedfromdifferent citiesofPakistan.Thestudyconcludedthatperceivedsocialsupport is asignificant predictor of psychological well-being among teenagers.Resultshavealsorevealedthatteenagerswithoneparent alivehavelowerlevelsofperceivedsocialsupportandpsychological well-being than teenagers with both parents alive. This study will havesignificantimplicationsinteenageandfamilycounseling.Itwill open new horizons for the researchers interested to study diverse familial issues.
