Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Hemangioma in Children

1995
Nine malignant hemangiomas ( hemangioen-dothelioma 5, hemangiopericytoma 3 and hemangiosarco-ma 1) in children were reported. All the diagnoses were confirmed by operation and pathologic examination, but 4 cases were proved misdiagnosed preoperatively. In authors' experience, the intensive attention should be paid to the superficial infantile sclerous masses of soft tissue with rapid growing, and surgical biopsy should be performed as early as possible. Once malignant hemangioma is diagnosed, the tumor should be resected extensively and postoperative chemotherapy should be given. The survivalrate in this series of patients is about 50%.
