Theoretical and experimental studies of the transition from the exciton to the plasma phase

1983
Abstract The complex dielectric function of a semiconductor is calculated for an arbitrary number of free carriers. Large dispersive changes occur when the exciton is ionized due to an increased screening of the Coulomb potential. The intensity-dependent changes of the refraction and absorption spectra are measured directly from the shifts to the eigenmodes of a CdS platelet resonator.
