Percutaneous Nephrostomy Tube Placement in Pregnancy: Care of the Mother and Unborn Child
2016
Abstract Caring for a pregnant patient undergoing a PCN procedure requires the expertise of the entire team of caregivers. Proper education of the patient and family about the procedure including radiation risks is the key. Different stages of pregnancy along with the variable caregivers in the room necessitate the IR team to methodically evaluate the patient and the procedural care. Little about this situation is routine and for many IR teams, this is a ‘low volume, high risk' procedure. Utilizing available resources will allow the IR team to provide expert care to the patient who is depending on them to deliver nothing but the best and safest of care.
