FEASIBILITY OF A BRAKING ASSISTANT SYSTEM FOR DRIVER PEDAL OPERATION IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. IN: HUMAN FACTORS IN DRIVING AND TELEMATICS, AND SEATING COMFORT

2004
The study's purpose was to examine the movements of the driver's foot from an accelerator pedal to the brake pedal in normal and emergency braking situation. The foot behavior was analyzed using a three-dimensional image processing system. A charge coupled device laser displacement sensor was used to measure the displacement and velocity of the driver's foot motion. As a result, a feasibility study of the braking assistant system was undertaken before application of the brake pedal in emergency situations.
