A matrix converter based electro-hydrostatic actuator

This paper describes the design, construction and testing of a matrix converter permanent magnet motor drive for an electro-hydrostatic actuator (EHA) for aircraft use. The converter has been built using a 1200 volt, 35 Amp Eupec Matrix Converter module. The matrix converter is used to control the speed of a permanent magnet motor that determines the position of a prototype electro-hydrostatic actuation (EHA) system. The paper includes test results of this converter in operation including the closed loop vector control of the motor. (5 pages)
