Intelligent handoff ofmobile terminals byusing soft computing

The diversification ofmultimedia service makesthe manifest increasing ofbandwidth requirement inthefuture communication service. Forefficiently usingthebandwidth resource, thecellsizeofthecellstructure basedmobile communication system isreduced. Reducing thecell size to promote theutilization ofresources, however, increases the handoff frequency inthemeantime. During thehandoff process, ifthebandwidth utilization ofthetarget cell ishigh, connection break offisunavoidable. Toreduce theoccurrence ofbreak off, reserving bandwidth formobile terminal (MT)before handoff is feasible. Inthis paper, wetrytousethegreytheory topredict thetrajectory ofMT,soastojudge thetarget cell oftheMT. Meanwhile, byusingtheinformation suchasthedistance between MT andbasestation (BS), thevelocity oftheMT,the required bandwidths oftheMT andtheavailable bandwidth of thetarget cell, we construct afuzzy system todetermine the necessity ofhandoff andtheamountofreserved bandwidth.
