Non-oxide glasses for optical waveguide applications

1996
Abstract In order to design optical waveguiding devices, two families of non-oxide glasses have been investigated. Tellurium halide based glasses have been optimized to produce low loss optical fibers operating in the 3 to 13 μm region. Remote analysis of organic species based either on evanescent wave or direct absorption has been performed. By cationic or anionic exchange, gradient index structures have been produced on the surface of ZrF 4 or InF 3 based fluoride glasses. Planar waveguides as well as channel waveguides have been described in terms of diffusion depth and refractive index profile.
