Comparison of Transient Angle Stability Between Different Virtual Synchronous Generators

2019
Virtual synchronous generator (VSG) is a control method that mimics the rotor inertia and damping effect of synchronous generator (SG), which enhances inertia of microgrid in the one hand. However, the inverter using VSG may experience transient angle instability like SGs when the grid voltage dip occurs. In this paper, the angle stability of three VSGs using different control schemes (no inner loops, inner voltage and current loop, current-voltage model of SG) are compared. The reduced models of VSGs using different VSG strategies are developed for transient angle stability analysis. Based on the developed model, the angel stability are compared by using the power-angle curve and equal area criterion (EAC). Several analysis results are concluded and verified by the numerical simulations.
