The Relevance of Conscious Moral Reasoning
2011
The role and the importance of conscious moral reasoning is highly debated nowadays. Philosophers disagree about the role of principles in moral reasoning (e.g., Dancy, 1993, 2004). Social psychologists argue that the larger part of our moral judgements are not the outcome of conscious reasoning, but flow from unconscious and automatic, highly affect laden cognitive processes (e.g., Haidt, 2001, 2007).
