Introduction: cerebrovascular disease, cause the death of individuals, when he/she is still socially active. Medical knowledge about the management of this entity is essential for decreasing morbimortality that directly influences the prognosis of patients. Objective: to determine the level of knowledge that primary health care physicians have about cerebrovascular disease. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted at 71 medics of primary health care, from Guines municipality, Mayabeque province, in the period from January 1st to December 31st, 2012. A questionnaire was made as an assessment instrument in which the main aspects of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular disease were obtained. The variables studied were age, sex, years of work experience, professional category, polyclinics they belong, mean scores obtained for each item and final qualitative evaluation. Results: the largest age group was 25 to 34 years, which represents 84.5 % of professionals, "Luis Li" Teaching Polyclinic had the highest number of physicians surveyed (60.5 %). The analysis of the total average of all physicians surveyed showed they scored less than 3 points in 4 items. There was a predominance of grade "good" in 61 physicians surveyed, for a 85.9 %. Conclusions: the need for learning about cerebrovascular disease was demonstrated in primary health care medics.
