Item Reduction of the Caring Factor Survey–Care Provider Version, an Instrument Specified to Measure Watson's 10 Processes of Caring

2016
Abstract As more surveys are used in health care to meet the increased demand of data, it is important to develop measures of caring science to ensure that this important construct continues to be included within quality measures of clinical care. The Caring Factor Survey–Care Provider Version, premised on Watson's 10 dimensions of caring, is used to assess employees' perception of enacting caring within clinical care. Factor analysis was used to reduce the instrument from 20 to 10 items. The Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin statistic (96), Bartlett's test of sphericity (p ≤ .001), and Cronbach's α (.96) revealed a psychometrically sound measure of caring.
