Synthesis and characterization of titanium opaque porcelain

2011
The titanium opaque porcelain was synthesized through normal melting-derived route using SnO2 glass-ceramic system. The porcelain was characterized by thermal expansion,X-ray diffraction and cytotoxicity tests. The results of XRD showed that the main crystal phase of the opaque porcelain was SnO2.Its' average coefficient of thermal expansion(α25-350) was 8.9×10-6/℃,which was lower than that of bonding porcelain(9.2×10-6/℃) and pure titanium(9.5×10-6/℃).The optimal fusion temperature was 780℃.The methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay results demonstrated that the cytotoxicity of the titanium porcelain was ranked as 0.At the same time, the titanium porcelain did not result in hemolysis. It was believed that the titanium opaque porcelain synthesized in this research was a biocompatible material and could be used for dental implant materials.
