Índice de sostenibilidad social de tres comunidades rurales del municipio San Rafael de Carvajal. Trujillo, Venezuela

The study aimed to estimate the Social Sustainability Index (ISS) for rural communities of Alto de La Cruz, Loma de San Isidro and Loma de San Rafael from San Rafael de Carvajal municipality, Trujillo state, Venezuela. A descriptive research with transeccional and non-experimental design was utilized. In order to get key information a socioeconomic-structured questionnaire based on 27 items was applied to 108 farmers regarding the social dimension of sustainable development. The results showed that the Alto de La Cruz, and Loma de San Rafael earned a 0.65 ISS which places them in stable condition and for Loma´s community of San Isidro a value of 0.59 was reached, which places the community in a unstable position. Based on results should be generated social development programs with strategies to improve basic services, utilities, employment and housing, in order to ensure the sustainability of these communities.
