The pre-operative endocrine assessment of craniopharyngiomas.

Abstract Pre-operative endocrinopathies are common in patients presenting with craniopharyngiomas. Clinical features may not be obvious and careful pre-operative endocrine assessment is essential. Failure to recognise and address pre-operative diabetes insipidus and secondary hypoadrenalism is potentially fatal. We review the available published data on pre-operative endocrine dysfunction and suggest an approach to assessment and management before surgery.
