Three dimensional visualization of supersonic flows

2008
A three dimensional supersonic flow, generated by insertion of cylindrical rod into an axisymmetric flow, is studied by three dimensional flow visualization techniques and laser induced fluorescence using I2 as the molecular seed. Shock waves, wakes, and boundary layers and their interactions are observed and the relation of I2 fluorescence to such flow structure is discussed.
