The invention provides an electric helm gear based on speed ring reversing and a control method of the electric helm gear. After a signal conditioning circuit carries out voltage change, filtering and amplitude limiting processing on a control plane drift angle given signal, the signal is transmitted to a controller DSP (Digital Signal Processor) through AD (Analog to Digital) conversion; the DSP outputs a digital control signal which is transmitted to a drive circuit through digital isolation to be converted into a power control signal; the operation of a brushless direct current motor (BLDCM) is controlled through controlling a main power circuit; the BLDCM drives a control plane to deflect through a drive gear set so as to follow the control plane drift angle given signal; the busbar current of the BLDCM is sampled by a current sensor to be fed back to the DSP; an angle sensor which is connected with the drive gear set feeds back the current drift angle of the control plane in real time and transmits the drift angle to the DSP. According to the invention, the frequency response of a brushless direct current electric steering engine is effectively quickened, and the anti-jamming property of a system is improved.
