Excess thermodynamic properties and FT-IR studies of binary mixtures of 2-butoxy ethanol + amines at different temperatures

Abstract Experimental values of density (ρ), speed of sound (u) and viscosity ( η ) of binary liquid mixtures containing 2-butoxy ethanol with dipropylamine, diethylamine and triethylamine at temperatures (298.15 to 308.15) K with the interval of 5 K have been discussed in the present communication. Using the experimental data, thermodynamic parameters like excess molar volume ( V m E ), excess isentropic compressibility ( κ s E ), excess speed of sound ( u E ), deviation in viscosity ( Δ η ), excess Gibb’s free energy of activation ( Δ G *E ), apparent molar volume ( V φ , i ) and partial molar volume ( V ¯ m , i ) have been calculated to study the interaction present in these liquid mixtures. Strong intermolecular interaction between the components of the mixtures is made known by these parameters. Order of magnitude of these parameters substantiates the order of interaction of 2-butoxy ethanol with amines. Redlich-Kister polynomial has been used to correlate the excess and deviation properties with composition. To carry out comparison of correlating ability of various viscosity models, standard deviation has been calculated using the corresponding relation. Spectral data of these liquid mixtures also strengthens the results obtained from above calculated thermodynamic properties.
