Alteraciones estructurales en el edema isquémico del disco óptico

The ischemic edema in the optic nerve head in albino rabbits was studied by experimental occlusion with microspheres. Three mounts later, the histopathological analysis was done with a haematoxilin and eosin staining. We observed a light edema, hydropic and cavernous degeneration, disappearance of the limiting membrane of Elschnig vascular and astrocytic reaction with an increase in the nunber of cells and the presence of degene- rated cells in the optic nerve head.
